Camp Atterbury Range - More details have been announced for the 2021 NRA National Championships at Camp Atterbury, including the preliminary race schedule. If you haven't registered yet, please do so here.
For starters, two of the most experienced race officials in NRA championship history will be officiating this summer in Maddie Tompkins and Ken Boyd. Tompkins will serve as the tournament director for the High and Low Power Championships, while Boyd will serve in the same role for the Pistol Championship. As one of the winningest competitors in rifle history, Tompkins needs little introduction. As for Boyd, he has been a long-time precision pistol judge and match judge at the NRA Pistol Championships and the Bianchi Cup.

When it comes to getting to the base, former campers at Camp Atterbury will notice a big difference — the base's main gate on Cyclone Street is closed for renovations. Follow the signs to the School Road Gate entrance.
Upon entry to the base, each individual must have a valid driver's license or government-issued driver's license. Additionally, be sure to review Indiana National Guard Camp Atterbury's COVID-19 policy.
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, the safety of our competitors and employees is our top concern. The NRA will comply with federal, state and local regulations for this summer's events. Due to COVID-19, NRA and ISRPA events may change to better promote or comply with safety. Any or all of our events could change or be worse as a result of widespread or significant changes. We are not canceling events this summer. We continue to monitor federal, state and local regulations and issue additional statements as necessary.
When it comes to accommodation, there are several options. The most comfortable base, Camp Atterbury offers hotel-style buildings with suites, along with standard rooms, as well as bookable "military open bay" style rooms. Camp Atterbury also offers a limited number of RV sites and MWR campgrounds and cabins. Note: The lodge is controlled by the Atterbury Lodge Office, not the NRA.

American pistol, rifle and shotgun athletes have performed exceptionally well on the international circuit on the road to Paris 2024.
It's only fitting that we give Walter's iconic 26-year-old pistol one last shot before sunset.
Here we will share a few tips on how to develop a 7.62mm NATO low pressure military rifle to fit India's famous Ishi Enfield.

NRA Gun of the Week: Smith & Wesson M&P Shield Plus at 30 Supercarries | The official magazine of the NRA, the event was originally scheduled to take place at the "jumping" target rifle range at Camp Atterbury (District 14). We reserved this range at the beginning of the year, but 2 weeks before the event, the US Army notified us that they were moving us from the 14th range to accommodate units deployed overseas. This unit needs a scope to qualify its gunnery personnel.
Luckily, we were able to use one of the "jumped" target pistol ranges (10 ranges) in the morning and share the 14 range in the afternoon. In our previous experience using paper target ranges at Camp Atterbury, these changes to the range plan were quite unusual. In the past we military used pistol and rifle qualified ranges, so this may not have been avoided. After reaching the range, the maintenance staff informed us that the base was more active than it had been in some time. Apparently we picked a good weekend to be a civilian on a military base…
24 Participants met at 0745 at the Camp Atterbury Range Control Building. However, another change to our plans was made the previous day at the Camp Atterbury "Non-Collision Conference". Our 14th starting range is currently set back to 1400 and we may have limited use of this range depending on the needs of the placement units to qualify their personnel. Fortunately, we were still using the pistol's qualified range (10 ranges) to 1400.

After each vehicle was "agreed on," we headed for the #10 fleet. Participants unloaded their belongings and headed to the parking lot (there is only limited parking available on the campus).
Due to the number of active ranges on the base that day, access to Area 10 was delayed (US Army regulations state that prior to any direct fire, it must be checked by range control; the proper operation of the targeting system must be verified).
A short security meeting was held after the US military followed regulations for occupying the field. Those willing to pull the trigger showed off their skills to the rangers. All but one participant was accepted. A single participant failed due to the holster falling off after the pistol was drawn, making safe reloading extremely difficult.
Participants were divided into three separate lanes and adapted to 10 shooting conditions, 8 of which were functional (one was completely disabled and one had targets that failed to register hits). Each shooting position consists of a "line" of 7 targets at distances of 10, 13, 16, 17, 23, 27 and 31 meters. The target consists of a three-dimensional turret (also known as a porch target) that lies flat on the back of the barrel and rises vertically via computer control to engage the shooter. Target exposure time as well as hitting is computer controlled.

Using the Automatic Target Range Control and Recording (TRACR) system, several different target scenarios were run, including the US Army's Official Pistol Qualification Qualification (CPQC) course, the MP course, and other scenarios we pre-defined. ). Targeting scenarios were not allowed by the basic regulations and took much longer than the actual firing). The US Army's official pistol qualification ("9M qualification") course presents 30 targets and marks shooters as follows:
About 1,200 hours each delivery had the opportunity to act out several different scenarios, then we had lunch and told the life story of Dr. Joseph Warren about the events of April 19, 1775 and his death at the Battle of Bride Hill.
During lunch, range technicians worked to correct several target defects observed (mostly targets where hits did not register). Shooters were asked to move to a new line after lunch to ensure each participant had a chance to shoot a line with a fully functional target. We were able to run target scenarios on all three deliveries after lunch before our scheduled 1400 start time at the US Army rifle qualification range.
Below is a video of one of the target scenarios that will give you an idea of how to shoot at this range. Note the 3-round burst in the background from the M249 SAW machine gun on our right. Their field of fire extends to the grassy area behind our range (at the 1:45 mark, to the right of the 6|7 firing marks, you can see the target for the range using the M249 SAW above the pier).

Packing and moving to a rifle qualification range (No. 14) mostly involves loading the loading equipment onto a truck for transport to an area where vehicles are parked. At the time, the formal signing process for the US Army's 10th Agency was controlled by the board.
When we arrived at District 14 and met with the forces occupying the area, it became clear that our time there would be severely limited. At this time, the conditions were not very good for accurate shooting. Shooters should expect winds from the right side of 10 to 20 mph with occasional gusts up to 25 mph. The light was also constantly changing as the strong winds blew and the low-level clouds broke apart.
